Leadership | Staff | Managers Info

Leadership | Staff | Manager positions are handled through an application process. The application link is sent out to all members from the most recent Golden Wave Band roster. The process of application typically occurs in the month of February but may vary from year to year. Check with the directors of the Golden Wave Band for more information.

Drum Major:

  • Application plus AUDITION is required
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership skills
  • Work closely with the directors;
  • Serve the roles as conductor or field staff
  • Assists to keep everyone motivated and is a positive role-model on and off the field
  • Must be available before rehearsals to meet with the directors for planning, strategy, and implementation (typically 2:30 – 3:30, MWF)
  • Served as a member of the Golden Wave Band for at least one season
  • Prior GWB leadership experience is recommended and preferred;
  • MUST be available for manager workdays and Leadership Retreat starting the week before Preseason Week (August 7-15, 2025)
  • Must be available for staff meetings (typically twice a month) and Leadership meetings

Audition Process (Basic Summary) is as follows:

  • Apply and provide written information regarding your potential contribution in this position 
  • Stage 1 of Audition Process:
    • Whistle Demonstration: Perform whistle bursts at multiple tempos provided – You must acquire and use a Fox40 Classic or Fox40 Sonik Blast whistle. These are available online for purchase or possibly at your local sporting goods store. Please email Dr. Odajima if you cannot get one.
    • Conducting Demonstration: Conduct to a recorded tune demonstrating your conducting skills. 
    • Interview with directors and possibly other staff members (interview will be scheduled online via zoom or in person)
  • Stage 2 of Audition Process - After completion of Stage 1, the directors will invite a select group of candidates to advance and participate in Stage 2 which includes the following:

    • Mace Demonstration: Demonstration of the BU Fanfare Drum Major Mace Routine (practice mace and routine provided – practice mace must be used)
    • Live Conducting Demonstration: Round two applicants will participate in a live conducting demonstration on the podium with the Courtside Players in Jones Concert Hall. This date and location are subject to change as we hear more about the Spring Game

     Full details are provided to those who apply for the Drum Major position through the Leadership / Staff Application process.

Undergraduate & Graduate Staff:

  • Must demonstrate strong leadership skills
  • Works closely with the directors
  • Works during rehearsals to assist with cleaning drill and music
  • Assists to keep everyone motivated and is a positive role-model on and off the field
  • Must be available before rehearsals to meet with the directors for planning, strategy, and implementation (typically 2:30-3:30, MWF)
  • MUST be available for manager workdays and Leadership Retreat starting the week before Preseason Week (August 7-15, 2025)
  • Must have been in the GWB for two years and one year of GWB leadership experience
  • Must be available for staff meetings (typically twice a month) and Leadership meetings

Squad/Section Leader:

  • Served as a member of the Golden Wave Band for at least one season and has demonstrated potential for serving in a leadership role through exhibited habits of excellence in his or her personal skills as a marcher/musician
  • Demonstrates strong rehearsal skills and consistently shows a deep passion for the university, the ensemble, and its members
  • Serves as a positive role-model providing energy and motivation both on and off the field
  • MUST be available for Leadership Retreat starting the Wednesday before Preseason Week (August 13-15, 2025)
  • Attends Leadership meetings which occur usually the Monday following a home game, immediately following rehearsal (6:15-7:15 PM at MMB – dinner provided)

Office Manager:

  • Positions available for Fall & Spring
  • Assist directors with logistics (record-keeping for GWB attendance, form management, process emails for the Golden Wave Band account, and other administrative duties as assigned by the Directors)
  • Work-study eligibility is preferred.
  • Ideally, Fall Office Managers have previous experience as Summer Office Assistants
  • FALL ONLY- Must be available for manager workdays (August 7-12, 2025)

Summer Admin/Recruiter:

  • Assist directors with logistics - process emails for the Golden Wave Band account, data-management, apparel-management, etc.
  • Assist directors with orientations and recruitment of new students
  • Work-study eligibility is preferred.
  • Ideally, Summer Office Assistants stay on and assume the role of Fall Office Manager
  • Schedule is typically 28 hours a week M-Th. 

Uniform Managers:

  • Work closely with the Directors to organize and manage uniform check-out, cleaning/maintenance, and check-in; must be available to work a few days in the summer for prep.
  • The head uniform manager can be (does not have to be) a non-marching member as long as they are available for all games, practices, etc., and is registered for Marching Band.
  • Must be available for manager workdays (August 7-12, 2025)

Equipment Managers:

  • Manage the logistical operations of equipment for the GWB
  • Work closely with the directors to ensure all equipment is properly handled and transported
  • Work in tandem with KKPsi / TBS
  • Must be available for manager workdays (August 7-12, 2025)

Videographer:

  • Record video footage of the GWB as assigned by the Directors
  • Regularly upload footage for immediate use
  • Catalog all pictures for historical documentation
  • Available for rehearsals plus all game days/travel
  • May need to assist with sideline duties of equipment when necessary
  • Preferably a person who is not marching but anyone may apply.
  • Must have previous experience and a digital portfolio
  • Must be enrolled in GWB

Photographer:

  • Take pictures of the GWB as assigned by the Directors
  • Regularly upload pictures for immediate use
  • Catalog all pictures for historical documentation
  • Available for rehearsals plus all game days/travel
  • May need to assist with sideline duties of equipment when necessary
  • Preferably a person who is not marching but anyone may apply.
  • Must have previous experience, a digital portfolio, and your own equipment
  • Must be enrolled in GWB

Min-Con Leaders:

  • Served as a member of the Golden Wave Band for at least one season and has demonstrated potential for serving in a leadership role.
  • Agrees to follow all the guidelines provided by the Band Council and the Directors in providing an experience which emulates principles provided by Baylor University within Freshmen's Welcome Week. 
  • Will carefully plan each activity with intentional goals to make each meeting as meaningful as possible.
  • Will foster a safe, caring environment among all the members of the Min-Con group, making certain everyone feels like an important member.
